Avoid a DUI Accident - Put a Plan Together

Posted By Rosenberg & Rosenberg, P.A. || 1-Oct-2014

Whether it's the weekend or just the perfect summer day, enjoying a few drinks in beautiful Fort Lauderdale can be the perfect way to kick back and relax. One thing you shouldn't be relaxed about it drunk driving. If you plan to drink this summer, it is important that you have a plan in place so that you avoid any risk of drunk driving charges or serious accidents.

Rosenberg & Rosenberg, P.A. has been defending clients from DUI charges for numerous years. While we are proud to provide effective defense to our clients, we also strive to help them avoid these charges in the first place. Read through our blog for helpful tips on how you and your loved ones can avoid DUI accidents.

Planning Ahead for Your Social Gatherings

While the last thing you may want to do when headed to a social gathering or party is plan for a designated driver, this can be the most important step for ensuring you enjoy a fun, safe night.

You can help prevent and avoid DUI accidents by doing the following:

  • Host parties or events responsibly: if you are going to serve alcohol at your house, you should make sure that all those drinking have plans in place. Whether that means they need to hire a designated driver or stay at your place for the night, taking these precautions can help prevent a serious or tragic accident.
  • Have a backup plan for your plans: When you get to a party or celebration, your designated driver is likely going to face the temptation to drink. The designated driver should never be the friend who drank the least; the designated driver should not drink at all. Have a second or third driver in place if your first falls through. You may even need to bring money for a cab or bus.
  • Stay aware of the risks of DUI: While some people may claim they "know their limit", the truth is that any amount of alcohol in the bloodstream will affect driving abilities. The more you know about the risks of DUI related accidents and criminal charges, the more likely you will avoid drinking and driving.
