Don't be Sidelined by a Heat-Injury

Especially during the summer months, heat-related injuries are common given the climate of southern Florida at this time. Between 2003 and 2012, the National Weather Service states more than 115 people died on average each year due to heat-related fatalities.

Heat injuries can also occur from being over-exposed to too much sun. You could be eligible for a personal injury claim is you have suffered a heat-related injury which could cover the costs of any property damage, medical expenses, lost wages, and other expenditures.

Common types of heat-related injury include:

  • Heat stroke—quickly-rising body temperature which can lead to death or disability
  • Heat exhaustion—caused by water depletion due to heavy perspiration
  • Heat rash—caused by excessive perspiration
  • Heat syncope—dizziness or fainting after prolonged standing caused by dehydration
  • Heat cramps—muscle cramps caused by water depletion and salt buildup

Most heat-injuries victimize people working outdoors, those playing sports, and children. For this reason, do your best to stay hydrated and cover up to reduce sweating.

Signs that you may be susceptible to a heat injury soon include heavy perspiration, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, cramps, and heat rash. If this happens, attempt to cool down immediately by finding shade, hydration, and call for medical assistance.

If a heat-injury was the result of another person’s negligence, the victim could be eligible for compensation.
