Types of Bone Fractures You May Experience

If you have been in a workplace accident, car crash, slip-and-fall incident, or another violent event, you may have the painful misfortune of suffering any of the following types of bone fractures:

  • Simple fracture: Bone breaks or splits but remains in place and does not poke through the skinundefined
  • Compound fracture: Bone breaks and punctures the skin
  • Compression fracture: Vertebrae break and collapse on one another, causing further damage
  • Displacement fracture: Bone breaks, moves, and is situated at an unnatural angle
  • Complete fracture: Bone breaks and completely disconnects
  • Partial fracture: Bone breaks but remains partially connected
  • Transverse fracture: Bone break runs perpendicular to the axis of the long bone
  • Linear fracture: Bone break runs parallel to axis of long bone
  • Oblique fracture: Bone break runs diagonal to direction of bone
  • Spiral fracture: Bone break results in a portion of the bone twisting
  • Comminuted fracture: Bone breaks in multiple place, effectively breaking up the bone into different parts
  • Impacted fracture: Bone breaks into multiple pieces, which push into one another and cause further damage
  • Stable fracture: Broken ends of bones are almost perfectly lined up and have barely moved out of place, if at all

Some of the fractures, such as compound and compression fractures, typically require corrective surgery, which can be very costly and require a much longer recovery period. This can cause a major disruption in the lives of those who have been injured, forcing them to put their professional, social, and family lives on hold and sink thousands of dollars into medical care and other injury-related costs. However, if you have experienced broken bones in a negligence-related accident, this doesn’t have to be your story.
