Rosenberg & Rosenberg, P.A. Secures $550K Settlement for Motorcyclist Struck by Truck Driver

Rosenberg & Rosenberg, P.A. and our attorneys in Fort Lauderdale have successfully concluded a motorcycle accident claim managed for our client who was struck by a negligent cement truck driver. While stopped at a red light on her motorcycle, our client, who was only 19 years old at the time, was rear-ended and ran over by the cement truck right as the light turned green. She needed emergency back surgery to repair her fractured spine, but she was able to make an impressive recovery. After filing a lawsuit on her behalf, we were able to obtain a $550,000 settlement, concluding the claim without worry of appeal and allowing our client to move on with her life.

Motorcycle Safety Tips Every Rider Should Know

At Rosenberg & Rosenberg, P.A., our job doesn’t just begin and end with a client’s case. We feel it is only right for us to do everything we can to try to help people avoid bad accidents and stay safe and sound. If you ride a motorcycle, just as our client does, please take a moment to review this quick list of motorcycle safety tips to make certain you’re doing all you can to be safe on the road.

Five must-know safety tips for motorcyclists are:

  1. Wear protective gear: Do all you can to protect yourself from harm in the event of a crash. Even a low-speed collision can be devastating to a motorcyclist. You should always wear jeans or pants, a reinforced jacket, boots or closed-toed shoes, goggles, gloves, and, of course, a helmet that has been approved by the Department of Transportation for crash-safety effectiveness.
  2. Quick vehicle check: Before you hit the road, you should always do a quick walk around your motorcycle to look for potential issues. Most importantly, check your tires each and every time before you drive. A flat tire can be catastrophic when your ride only has two.
  3. Know your skill level: The motorcycle you ride and the route you take each day should match your own riding skill level. The chances of getting into a motorcycle accident will rise if you are going through a high traffic area as a new rider, for example. Use some of your free time to practice your motorcycle control in an empty parking lot until you’re fully comfortable with your ride.
  4. Predict the weather: In real rough weather, riding a motorcycle can get downright dangerous. Rounding corners can be precarious if rain has put gravel or mud on the asphalt, for example. Double-check the forecast before you ride and see if you can postpone your trip until it clears up if it looks bad. Remember: you have no protection from harsh weather like hail when riding your motorcycle.
  5. Do not lane split: In Florida, you are not allowed to lane split while riding your motorcycle. Only California allows lane splitting. Trying to lane split in Florida or another state that outlaws it puts you in extreme danger because other motorists will never expect you to be there, increasing the chances of them sideswiping you and causing a bad accident.
