Office Workers Are at Serious Risk for These Injuries

Repetitive Strain Injuries Are Common Among White Collar Workers

No matter how physically strenuous your job is, you may be at risk of developing a repetitive strain injury if you perform repeated motions or assume the same physical position every time you go to work. You may not be in danger from heavy machinery or falling objects if you work at a desk or in an office, but you could be hurt through prolonged stress on a part of the body.

Common Types of Repetitive Strain Injuries

That being said, even workers who spend a majority of their time looking at a screen must keep an eye out for any signs of any of the following repetitive stress injuries:

  • Tendinitis: This can occur in virtually any part of the body and happens when the fibrous tissue that makes up a tendon becomes inflamed, causing pain at the point where the tendon and bone connect. This is the primary cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which affects the wrist and hands and can result from prolonged periods of time typing or using a computer mouse.
  • Rotator cuff injury: Rotator cuff issues typically result from straining the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint through repeated motions such as lifting, reaching, etc. This typically results in limited motion and restricted ability to lift the arm above the shoulder.
  • Bursitis: This occurs when repeated friction occurs in an area where the tendon and bone meet, causing the bursa sac to become inflamed, causing pain and restricted motion. Bursitis can occur due to trauma, even trauma that occurs due to continuous stress.

Workers’ Compensation for Repetitive Stress Injuries

Repetitive strain injuries can create serious problems for laborers in any industry. If you sustain an injury through continual stress on a certain part of the body, you may experience reduced ability to perform the demands of your job. You may also need to take time off work or receive medical treatment in order to deal with the pain such injuries tend to create. In some cases, you may even develop a permanent disability.

You may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits if you develop a repetitive strain injury in the workplace or while you were performing the duties of your job. However, you may have difficulty proving that your injury warrants workers’ compensation. Allow our Fort Lauderdale workers’ compensation attorneys to come alongside you and help you obtain the payment you deserve for your injuries.
